2002: Measuring Up: Assessing Curriculum, Teaching and Learning
This symposium presented a forum to discuss assessment of our curriculum, of our teaching methods and of our students and their learning. The goal was to explore how we integrate new teaching methods and techniques and what the impact is on our learners. There were a variety of topics that were addressed in the presentations:

How can one successfully integrate technology and new media in the foreign/second language classroom? What are the benefits to instructors? To our students? What are the limitations?
What do current placement tests look like and do they test what we teach? How are they administered? Are there advantages? Disadvantages?
How do we test the four skills speaking, writing, reading, listening today?
What does cultural knowledge mean and how do we assess cultural knowledge and understanding?
What are some alternative approaches to our traditional classroom testing? What are the benefits? The draw-backs?
How have standards changed the way we teach and assess our students?
