2004/2005
The council is sponsoring the ACTFL registration this fall for all lecturers attending the conference in Chicago. A council survey has revealed that there are many instructors who would like to add multimedia production to their classes but that they lack the necessary skills and that there is insufficient hardware available for more than one or two classes to get involved in such projects per quarter. The council has received a grant of $ 6000 from Hewlett to purchase a DVD camcorder and three editing stations and is planning with the MMLC to offer a set of workshops to language instructors during the year.

2003/2004
the council was instrumental in changing the format of on-line placement to include listening comprehension tasks. German and French added the new component in the summer 2003. Discussions with other languages to augment their placement tests to include listening comprehension is continuing. The council also began the discussion on developing a language brochure for students that would highlight language learning and make it easy for students to compare departments and programs. We currently have a subcommittee that is charged with work out a first plan. The proficiency committee was especially active during the year discussing the merit of course substitutions for students with learning disabilities. The committee is in the process of formulating new guidelines.
